In March of 2013, 11 students from the Park Scholars Program in Park School of Communications at Ithaca College in New York journeyed to Washington DC to conduct oral histories with people who participated in The March on Washington in 1963. They visited the Historic Metropolitan A.M.E. Church in Washington, DC. Our host for the day was Ms. Thelma Jacobs. Here she shares with us the history of Metropolitan A.M.E.
You can read about their experience here – in a guest commentary written by The Ithacan’s current Editor-in-Chief, Megan Devlin.
And, you can see footage from their actual interviews in the documentary Meet Me at Equality: The People’s March on Washington. Coming soon to PBS!
